This is a pronounced and very blatant reference to racism in X-Men comics. In this case, "mutie" is the equivalent of "nigger" in the Marvel Universe for mutants. Honestly, I never thought of mutie as being a terrible word or didn't get the sense that X-Men characters were even offended by this. However, I guess they are offended. Clearly, Kitty Pryde did not like what the "Rock was cooking."
